System-Alpenluft - winner of the Watt d’Or 2012 Award!
The Swiss energy landscape is undergoing radical change. More than ever, the energy sector is seeking outstanding and innovative projects to reduce energy consumption and satisfy the requirements of the future. Each year, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE rewards the best services in the energy sector and awards the renowned ‘Watt d’Or’ to exemplary projects.
52 applications for the Watt d’Or 2012 were received, competing for the trophy in one of five categories: “Society”, “Energy Technologies”, “Renewable Energies”, Buildings” and “Energy-Efficient Mobility”.
Amongst them was System-Alpenluft. In addition to an 80% energy saving in its collection services alone and virtually emission-free operation, this innovative waste disposal solution offers even more advantages, from which every single citizen can benefit. Mini-compacting containers compress the waste directly at the collection site, thereby reducing the intervals between emptying and, in turn, the number of journeys required for unloading. Furthermore, noise emissions are minimised by the use of electrically-driven vehicles, which in turn enables waste to be processed at night, thereby reducing daily traffic.
These striking advantages of sustainable and cost-effective waste disposal also impressed the Watt d’Or jury, made up of representatives from politics, research, the cantons, business and architecture as well as specialist trade and environmental associations.
In the category “Energy-Efficient Mobility”, the System-Alpenluft ultimately beat off all other contenders and was awarded the coveted Watt d’Or 2012 during the New Year’s presentation event held by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE!
